Dear Comrades,
We wish you a red, militant May Day. We thought this day would be a good opportunity to give you some updates on the work we’ve done so far this year and what’s in the works for the following months.
In 2020 we set our focus on providing broader access to the most fundamental works of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, by starting our Foundations collection with reprints of the classics of Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin and other important theoreticians from the two first stages of Marxism, as well as by reprinting the unofficial Selected Works of Mao Zedong: Volumes VI to IX.
This year we’ve intensified this work by releasing two different Foundations books a month instead of one like we did in 2020 (a rhythm we will keep to the end of the year—but we’ve also been working to increase the accessibility of our titles to a broader public by:
- regularly uploading the book PDFs on our website;
- recording high quality, free audiobooks;
- more widely distributing the books in more bookstores and local organizations.
Accessibility also meant starting to make a systematic effort to make our books available to people who cannot read English, focusing in particular on translating the theoretical works of the most advanced revolutionary movements published in our Colorful Classics collection.
- In December 2020 we launched the French section and released four titles. A week ago we released six additional titles and plan two more releases of several books with the hope to double the catalog by the end of the year.
- In April 2021 we opened the Spanish section and released five titles. Translation of other books is ongoing. This section is also working on translations into other languages such as Catalan.
- This year, we hope to open the German section to add titles to the German translation of the MLM-Basic Course, which is being revised for reprint.
- We are developing work with other progressive publishers and working on mutual projects.
In addition, we continue our work on Mao’s Selected Works, releasing the official I-V volumes now at a rate of one per month. The first volume was released in April, and the second is coming in just few days—stay tuned! At the moment, our work on Volume X has made slow progression, but our goal is still to release it by the end of the year.
Lastly (for now), we are currently working on the lengthy project of a book on the history of communism in Afghanistan, which will logically focus on the history of the anti-revisionist left. Our art team has produced this graphic design, which will be included in the book and sums up the few first chapters of the book. We are glad to unveil it today, to commemorate the founding of the Communist (Maoist) Party of Afghanistan, 17 years ago today. See here for the full picture and description of each part.
